The museum hosts a dedicated group of approximately 160 volunteers who on the second and fourth Saturdays, July and August excepted, provide free rides on the 7 ⁄2 in (190.5 mm) gauge railroad. The State Railroad Museum & The Nevada Southern Railway are a must see if your family has a thing for trains and is planning a visit to Las Vegas; as this place has some interesting history regarding the building of Hoover Dam, and a nice selection of vintage locomotives and rail cars to checkout. Tickets are reasonable, and the other exhibits offered by the museum we're cool for us and the kids to see. The Friends of the Nevada Southern Railway is the volunteer support group of the Nevada State Railroad Museum at Boulder City. The staff are all volunteers who absolutely love their jobs.
