A know-it-all seer (Fritz Leiber, Sr., Shakespearean actor and father of the sci-fi writer) on a train performs a couple of cheap parlor tricks (tells time without looking at a watch, foretells when the train is about to reach a curve in the track), creeping out the beautiful, dark-haired stranger sitting next to him. The streaming print is good. It is a very good movie to watch if you have a desire for a Rod Sterling movie. It begins and ends well as a suspense movie but, for some reason, someone decided to fill the middle with a muddled mess of nonsense to fill out the hour. Also notice the steel cans of Schlitz beer, which had to be opened with a can-opener. The ending makes it a Must-see!! Inner Sanctum isn’t really straight on noir, but it has plenty of noirish elements and likewise has much to recommend. If I had to pick a category I’d place this one in the subgenre of domestic noir, even though it doesn’t pack the punch of domestic classics like Pitfall and The Reckless Moment. it should have swept the academy awards that year!! Lead actor very dry, and monotone. After a traumatized woman kills her rich husband in self defense, his family and friends show up to secure a piece of the inheritance for themselves even if it means driving the poor woman insane - or worse.
