News Corp is a network of leading companies in the worlds of diversified media, news, education, and information services.I am juvenile enough to regularly ask this question of my nieces and nephew, despite being fairly confident of the answer. But just to be sure, I cemented my status in the form of seasonal bribery — by taking them to the new Winter Wonderland at Center Parcs Longford Forest.Who’d have thought a weekend in Ballymahon would be at the top of every kid’s to-do list?Yet, thanks to 400-acre fun paradise carved out of a sprawling forest, it’s the name on everyone’s lips.Full disclosure: I was a guest of Center Parcs so make of this commentary what you will, but having heard stories of the exorbitant prices I couldn’t miss the opportunity to check it out for myself.I’ll agree, it’s not cheap — on the weekend of my visit a four-bed lodge cost €999 for three nights. That may sound extortionate, but it works out at around €80 per night per 4* hotel room.Show me an Irish hotel with a free giant waterpark on-site for a cheaper price and I’ll pay for your Center Parcs holiday myself. And if you can find a better spot with a posse of adorable singing reindeer, I’ll bet they aren’t as cute as the ones in Longford. These warbling animal installations are just one of the seasonal additions that have upped the ante for the coming months. We’ve all seen the ads proclaiming year-round tropical temperatures in its indoor water park. But what’s the attraction of a midlands forest in the depths of winter? The bearded man has set up a workshop in Longford to fulfil his festive orders, making himself at home in a woodland village. It’s home to the aforementioned singing reindeer and industrious elves, who can be seen making toys in wooden cabins. The entire village trail is a mecca for photo opportunities, or at least it was whenever I managed to get Zoe, seven, Onagh, five and Paddy, three, to stand still!A posse of exuberant elves ushered us towards Santa’s workshop and gave us a peek into his clock room which displays the times all over the world (in case you’ve ever wondered how he manages to deliver all his gifts in one night). The man himself was a twinkly- eyed delight who chatted easily with his awe-struck guests. And I’m reliably informed that the presents he handed out were top notch. But that’s just a taste of the festive magic that has landed on Longford.Between now and the start of January, the entire resort is like Christmas on speed, with 57,600 fairy lights, three tonnes of biodegradable snow, sleighs and a giant bauble installation.Plus, on Sundays and Wednesdays there’s an animated light show projected onto a wall of water.
