It is still, however, in very good condition and well-marked. These places exist, and there are more like this in Washington. Places truly do get ruined this way Dogs are also able to use this trail. Trail Report: Thunder Mountain, Panguitch, Utah By Michael Paul May 31, 2016 I recently returned from a long road trip to The Mighty 5 National Parks in Utah, including Bryce Canyon, and I made it a point to ride my mountain bike in every single destination.

The fire road from Manker Flats to Baldy Notch is wide and very easy to follow. Beautiful views from there to the summit (be aware you're fully exposed to sun once on the ridge). A hike worth doingMy first time on this hike and I will be back! The snow is almost completely gone, the few patches were easy to either go over or go around. Length 5.7 mi Elevation gain 3,129 ft Route type Out & Back AngMae the worse part is almost 900ft elevation in about a mile. In fact there’s multiple places like this around Mount Daniel alone. We got there at 9 am and there was still a little parking. It was very mentally tough trying to find the path through snow and rocks.Beautiful hike, as always! There is a great balance of incline and ridge walking - the views are spectacular, especially the 360 degree panorama from the summit. Awesome hike for anyone that wants to get acclimated to higher elevation hiking. Overall: fantastic area to hike! This was difficult. Trail quality is mostly smooth hard pack but has short serious sections of loose, steep, switchbackery madness. snow still in upper basin but lap clear with lingering snow from slope on one side. This single track trail is a nice contrast to the steep ski trails you’ve been hiking up. Definitely bring sunscreen and reapply; the last 2 miles to the summit are almost entirely in the sun with very little shade. You can also call ahead and have them leave your permit on a message board in case you wanted to get a nice, early start time.I arrived at Manker Flats around 10:30 or so, a bit later than I’d have liked. Went on a Tuesday. I went this past Sunday and snow wasn’t an issue on 10.6.19Turn off your ad blocker to see a map of this trailWoods Lake Campground to Pack Trail to Horseshoe Canyon TrailCaples Lake to Shower Lake via Schneider Cow Camp Road Happy and safe hiking! It’s a great trail, been before, but I’ll return when it melts. Decent views. The Thunder Mountain Trail offers a combination hike with nearby Thimble Peak 9805'. Like many other more remote and less used places, you can find the info if you really want to.
the rest is hiking the ridge. Safe hiking out there.Nice trail with great views throughout the second half. Great Hike, route finding skills are helpful in my opinion, from trap pass up over to Thunder Mountain. No bathroom at the trailhead.

Oh, also, there’s a lot of marmots up there, most of seen 50+ so keep those good boys on a leash. AngMae There were a fair number of people (not me, I swear) huffing and puffing up the mountain, probably due to the altitude as well as the incline.Really great hike! Some of the trail goes over rough volcanic rock formations, so I could see how a dog that is not well conditioned for hiking may have issues with their pads. The peak itself is a small rock promontory that offered nearly three hundred and sixty degree views, from the deserts and San Bernardino National Forest past downtown to Santa Monica, the Pacific Ocean, and Santa Catalina Island on clear days. Every time I turned to the right, I was constantly struck by the sheer size of Mount San Antonio. There’s a ski-lift that runs to the top of Thunder Mountain. The trail itself winds around the west face of Thunder before a side-spur shoots to the summit. There were nearly 40 tents in the basin, most of which were parked on heather and some even on the main trail. The ridge sections offers some rest from the steady incline, but also adds to the views!
